Thursday April 17 &  Friday April 18th

It was a long trip from Boston to Zurich,  This included a long lay over at the Dublin Airport where the some who tried to get comfortable and those who spent the time talking to the locals.   Everyone was in good spirits as we finally boarded the plane to Zurich Switzerland.

Suisse Hotel located in Champery Switzerland and the Swiss Alps provided a great view as we traveled to the quaint village in the alps.   Once there we quickly made way to our rooms and changed for Dinner at the Palladium down the big hill from the hotel.

Pictures of the trip from Boston to Champery April 17-18th >> Euro 08 Boston to Champery Switzerland : Day 1 - We started out at 3 pm leaving Quincy on the water shuttle to Logan. Nice day and we boarded on time to Dublin Airport. It seemed like that airport never sleeps and our crew tried to stretch out and a few caught some Z's We departed for Zurich on time and arrived to a 60 degree day overcast but pleasent after the short 2-1/2 hour ride. The buses were loaded and off to Champery, just outside of France. We had a nice dinner at the rink complex with Pork, Veal, salad etc which some ate and off to the hotel for a nights rest. A short walk down the hill to the rink where we start games at 7:30 am and all the team will finish up by 2 pm

Saturday April 19th

Our day would start early with the Bantam games at 7:30 and then the Girls and Midgets games.  Our plan for a trip to France and Chamonix and a ride up Mt. Blanc was discouraged due to the weather.  Good choice by all, the sun came out and almost everyone opted for the trip up the top of Champery on the gondola and some had a typical swill lunch at the top while enjoying the sun and the sites.

Highlights of the Trip in Champery:

The Cave, Elevator, Disco for some, the Mountain Lunch and Body Surfing in the snow and Pizza.

Games in Champery Switzerland 4/19/08

Euro 08 Bantams Game Sat April 19th : Bantams dominated here in Switzerland in Champery. The early game but they came a live early for a great win to start the trip.

Bantam Game vs. Villars/Portes du Soleil Minis in Champery Switzerland  4/19/08

Euro 08 Girls vs. Mens Game Sat April 19th : The girls team could not make it so the girls played some men from the rink in Champery. They tried but could not deliver a goal in thier first game of the week.

Girls Game against the Local Men's team in Champery Switzerland  4/19/08

Euro 08 Midgets Game Sat April 19th : Midgets would struggle in this game to get over the jet lag and the refs who frowned upon hits above the shoulders. They would play what appeared to be an older team who had some experience playing with each other.

Midgets Game against the Local Men's team in Champery Switzerland  4/19/08

Travel Pictures of Champery Switzerland  >> Euro 08 - Champery Switzerland Sat April 19th : First day of the trip after a good nights rest in the Swiss Hotel. Each of the teams had a game today. We started early and had a good time. The Bantams played to a great win, the girls played a men’s team due to the backing out of the girls team at the last minute. And the Midgets played to a touch loss, they did win the 2nd period. Most of the crew went to the top of the Mt. Champery in the Gondola, we had lunch and took in the views. Now we are off to dinner and we depart at 7 am from the Hotel for another ride through the Alps.

Sunday April 20th

Our day would include a bus ride as did every day.   We would stop in Lecco Italy for a game for each of the teams.  Here we got a great welcome and the biggest digital scoreboard I have ever seen.   The rink had a nice cafe outside and was along a recreational area along a river.   A nice relaxing afternoon for some.  Of course the gelato was delicious.   After the games we would continue on to Hotel Gardesano in Bussolengo Italy near Lake Garda

Games in Lecco Italy  4/20/08

Euro08 Italy 2008 - Bantams in Lecco : Bantams would continue with the winning ways, after the first period we made some trades and it became a great fun game. We moved over 4 players and traded goalies.

Bantams  Game vs. Ghiaccio

Euro08 Italy 2008 - Girls in Lecco : We were scheduled to play a mixed team in Lecco, There was one girl the Captain who scored a goal on us, the boys were getting used to playing with our girls and the first period ended in a 2-1 game and coaches asking what to do in case of a tie game. The last period started and that we thought had been resolved as they scored 6 unanswered goals. Some of the boys stayed to cheer on the girls and they would not give up and came to back with just 3 minutes or so to go it looks out of our reach then the girls came alive 3 goals in the last 3 minutes and two in the last minute would bring us to a 9-9 tie and we called it at that, everyone had a smile on thier face.

Girls Game vs. Ghiaccio Mixed Team

Euro08 Italy 2008 - Midgets in Lecco : After suffering the defeat in Switzerland our boys were pumped for a win. This would not be the day however. A nice rink in Lecco with the cafe and gelatto bar downstairs on one of the nicer days of the trip. But out boys would fall to the Italians like we did to the Swiss team.

Midgets Game - Coming Soon

Monday April 21st

The weather would turn against us on our first full tourist day.   We left the hotel for the trip to Verona and the rain was coming down steady.   As we arrived at the parking lot it was a downpour.  A great day for the street vendors to be selling umbrellas.   They were 5 Euro right off the bus and few found the vendors to come down on their price.  Better ones were found for the same money inside the city walls.   The weather did not stop many from venturing around the city and into the coliseum which is being renovated and has made little progress since the Golden Eagles visited here 4 years ago.

Our scheduled ride on the lake was replaced with a couple of hours touring a small peninsula and as the rain let up and the Pizza, Sandwiches and out door cafe's provided some great sites we managed to have a pleasant afternoon in Simonelli Italy.

Euro 08 - Photo's from Others who want to share : Here are some Pictures that people contributed. If you want to share your favorite Photo's for all to see send them to me at wworks@comcast.net and I will post them as well.

Pictures of Verona & Simonelli  and assorted others contributed by the folks on the trip - I did not take any due to the rain and potential damage to the camera, if anyone has some classics send them to me and I will create a gallery of pictures from those cities.

I have posted a gallery of Photos from other folks and there are several pictures from people who dared bring their cameras out in the rain.   Thanks to the Fay's and Sarro's and if anyonelse wants to post thier pictures please email me your favorites.  wworks@comcast.net

Tuesday April 22nd

The weather looked better as we made our way to the boats which would take us across to Venice.   We would have about 4 hours in the city of canals.   Here the rain pretty much held off from being an issue.   As the group spread out and headed to the many different parts of this fascinating city the rain stopped for the most part.   The shops were everywhere from very upscale to the street vendor carts.  The sacred pigeons were being fed in St. Marks square as the high tide came and filled the sidewalks.

Highlights of the Trip in Italy:

The umbrellas, Pizza, Disco at Hotel for Kids, the Pool Table, a Kid friendly hotel with giant buffet meals, lasagna, two pastas every night, and the sleep, the Parents even had a curfew.

Travel Photos from Venice >> Euro08 - Sightseeing in Venice : Here are some more picturs of the Venice trip. There was a light rain to start and then some spots of sun trying to come out, there was a Burger King and McDonalds on this city built on trees staning in the ocean floor. Quite remarkable and much bigger than I ever imagined. We shopped and had a nice Italian lunch.

Wednesday April 23rd

Our day would include a long bus ride back to Switzerland, along the way we would stop in Innsbruck Austria and spend some time in the town shopping, sightseeing and lunch.  Yes they had a McDonalds or two.  The weather held off pretty good and the sun actually came out and it got hot.   On the way back about 45 minutes out of Zurich the Bantams would stop and play a game in Baeretswill a small village.  The Wetzikon Huskies  we played was actually combined team of 3 villages with similar age groups of boys.

Euro 08 Bantams vs. Wetzikon Huskies Sat April 23r : After a long road trip from Italy and lunch in Innsbruck Austria the Bantams stopped to play in a small village about 40 minutes outside of Zurich. Both teams had large benches and our Boys and Girls would control he first period. The final two periods were very competitive and a lot of fun for both sides.

Thursday April 24th

The day would start with a nice breakfast at the hotel and then a trip to meet the boys team at their hotel and then a walking trip in downtown Zurich.   There were so many stores and the best was the Starbucks right there next to the Bus Parking Lot.

Then we were off to cross the lake into Germany to play two games.   At the Ravensburg rink the Girls and Boys team would play some spectacular games against the German teams.  The girls were excited when they found out that two of the girls on the opposing team played on the German National Team.

Games in Regensburg Germany   4/21/08

Euro 08 - Girls Gemany : Girls vs.EV Ravensburg German team. This would bethe only game our girls would face an all girls squad. They came out stong and pulled off the first win of the trip to finish 1-1-1 overall.

Girls  Game vs. EV Ravensburg

Euro 08 Midgets - Germany : Midgets vs.EV Ravensburg German team. This would again prove to be a tough game as our Goalies did a fantastic job with some fantastic saves which kept the score at least respectable.

Pictures of Zurich and our Trip across the lake to Revensburg Germany >> Euro 08 - Zurich into Germany : Thursday April 24th, We spent part of the day in downtown Zurich before the trip to Germany for the Girls and Midgets final game of the trip.

Friday April 25th

Our Long trip home begins with a 0915 departure from the hotel.  We would travel to Geneva Switzerland to travel on to Dublin Ireland.   We arrived in Dublin with some baggage issues which delayed our arrival to Jury Hotel a little late.  As we all split up and were looking for pubs to find a good Irish meal the city got busy.  This is a city that lives for Friday and Saturday Nights and luck would have it we would be there to witness a Friday Night in Dublin.

Saturday April 26th

We started out with a mad dash to Carroll's for the final shopping dash.  Since all the shops were closed when we arrived this store did a brisk business on our last day in Europe.

FAQ's Answers:

Can I download these pictures to my computer: Yes there are two options to download the pictures from this trip.  You can "right click" and use save picture as and find a place on your computer to store it.  You have 3 size choices when you do this.  The small is good for inserting into emails, the Large makes a nice screen saver and will print up with fair quality at CVS or Wallgreens in 4x6 Sizes.

Option #2 - Place your selections in your cart, follow the instructions there and download the full size file which you can then use to share, print in good quality and even up to an 8x10 at a CVS or Walgreens or upload to Snapfish or your own photo sharing site.   The price is set at $0.23 for this trip, normal price is $2.00

If you want to show your appreciation for the free downloads you can.  You could sponsor me in the my 14th Annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek which will happen this September - Go to my pledge site and make a donation.  Sponsor Doug for the American Lung Association Bike Trek (Click Here)

Save the ones I like: As you are going thru the pictures, select buy this picture and put it in your cart, you can also select buy multiple pictures and small icons will come up and you can pick several from this.  Once you get them in your cart they will stay there until you delete them or if you delete your "cookies" from your internet explorer.  You can then go back later and delete before you make your final selections. -

Cropping: Once you have picked your picture and you are in the shopping cart, pay attention to the cropping option.  You can crop quite a bit off the files and have them printed by them.

Want an 8x10 or other size and it does not crop well: When I process the pictures, I crop them sometimes to a popular size in 4x6 increments but if the file name contains the word "edit" I have cropped them before posting them.  I still have the original files, send me the name of the file and I will post it suitable for the size you want   Email Doug

Comments:  Everyone can add a comment to a photo and rank it.  Comments should be appropriate as I will delete comments from viewing if they are not!

More FAQ        Top

How Long will they be available:  Pretty much forever as long as I maintain the website, the site cost several hundred dollars per year and this is my second year with the service.  Charging for Pictures and downloads help cover these costs of maintaining the site. -

Pricing:  I have set the price for the pictures and downloads at a special rate for the Golden Eagles, While I do pay for my trip to Europe Dick offers a lower rate for the trip and in return take pictures and offer them at a reduced rate.

Specialty Shots and collages:  I will take requests for specialty Pictures, I will post the ones that I have done for other people, if you want one let me know the final size that you want and the Photo's you want to include and I will let you know the price before I start working on it.

Can you Load My Pictures for others to see?

Yes we can!         There are two ways to do this

 1. You can send them to me and I can do it but this will take time unless you email them.

2. If you are technically inclined I can walk you thru the steps over the phone and you can load them from your own computer with internet access.  - email me and we can set up a time, trust me it is easy!

Don't Like your Picture:  If you want a picture deleted you can add a comment with a request for it to be deleted or send me an email with the file name and I would gladly do it.

When will it be done?  Please be patient, it is a process that takes time, if you want to know when files have been loaded just send me an email and I will let you know when there has been an update.
